Living in Portland, Oregon, it’s hard not to like coffee. Local shops are abundant, and can be found either downtown or in the suburbs.
I’m an “equal opportunity” patron of local shops. When I visit, I favor espresso-based drinks like a Cappuccino or Americano. I can’t afford a La Marzocco machine for home usage, but there’s no reason I can’t enjoy someone else’s.
At home I prefer the basic “pour over” brewing method. There’s something relaxing about the routine, not unlike shaving. I use the following equipment:
- Baratza Encore grinder
- Bonavita kettle
- Blue Bottle coffee dripper (the Hario V60 & Kalita Wave are also nice)
- Hario V60 drip scale
- Airscape storage canister
As far as beans, I have a Blend subscription from Blue Bottle. I find that blends taste more consistent over time, and the subscription offers a balance of freshness & convenience that are difficult to beat.
